All Power to the Working Class!
2017 International Workers’ Day Statement of the Communist Workers Party
THE COMMUNIST WORKERS PARTY USA sends greetings to all of our fellow workers marching and celebrating on this International Workers’ Day. A special greetings and cheer goes out to those workers who have been in the midst of battles for their rights and their livelihoods, both on the job and in their communities. Today is your day; today belongs to the working class.
Every day, you, our brothers and sisters, are bombarded with people telling you what today means to them, what we as workers should fight for, what our slogans and demands should be, and so on. Usually, these come in the form of reforms and symbolic actions. But how often are you asked what this day means, what you should fight for, what are your slogans and demands?
International Workers’ Day is a day for workers to look above the narrow event horizon of reform and symbolism to ideas and solutions that do more than just make our conditions of existence — our conditions of exploitation and oppression — slightly more bearable. This is the time when we as a class should take a long look at the situation and ask ourselves: What kind of a world do we want? What will it take to get there? What should it look like?
Today, we are in a great crisis. The Dark Scenario of theocracy, radical reaction and fascism is descending across Europe and America. War, famine, disease, poverty and oppression hang over us like a toxic cloud. Unless workers begin to think about and discuss these issues — and, more importantly, begin organizing and building up a class movement led by workers themselves to fight against them — we run the risk of the situation only getting worse. Today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, the work must begin. We in the Communist Workers Party turn to you, our brothers and sisters, and ask: What kind of a world do you want?
Class against Class — Revolution against Order!
Abolish the Wages System and Wage-Slavery!
For a Workers’ Republic! For World Communism!
